This workshop will be hosted at my home in Central Valley and is limited to 6 people.
There is an old story that says: “at the center of the it all, is a big tall oak tree…the Earth spins on its axis, and the oak is the center of the spinning universe.” Indeed it is hard to believe that many creatures of this earth would have lived so abundantly if it wasn’t for the great nourishing oak. Oaks have supported our ecosystem with food, story, comfort, medicine for thousands of years.
In this workshop, you will learn how to identify the oaks in our area, learn about their history and medicinal uses. We will work with oak bark and make various medicinal preparations. We will then go through the steps of acorn identification, specimen collection, processing, leeching, and cooking everything from acorn cookies to delicious acorn stews. At the end of the day, you’ll have a bag of mostly-processed acorns that are only a day or two away from turning into delicious flour or added to your favorite meal!
